Championship duo facing huge bans for punching in bad-tempered clash

Championship pair Bayley Liu and Sam Webb-Campbell are facing huge bans for their parts in a scuffle last week as Bradford Bulls took on Hunslet. The Bulls won the game at a canter, claiming the 34-0 victory to keep up the pressure on Championship league leaders Toulouse Olympique.

However, the contest took a sour turn late on when both Liu and Webb-Campbell were sent off by the referee for fighting. The match review panel have met and both men have been handed Grade E charges for punching.

It means the pair will stand in front of a tribunal next week to determine guilt and if applicable, a punishment, with Grade E charges carrying a minimum suspension of six games.

Such a ban would rule both players out of the majority of the Championship run in with just nine regular season games remaining before the play-offs and Super 8s begin.

Liu was making his first appearance for the Bulls since returning from injury with the 28-year-old featuring just eight times for Bradford so far since his move from Sheffield Eagles in the off-season. Brian Noble’s side are currently third in the table, just two points behind Toulouse.

Hunslet, on the other hand, sit four points adrift at the bottom of the table with Webb-Campbell making 13 appearances for the club.

In terms of a ban, the RFL have set a precedent in recent months with the likes of Connor Wynne and Jamie Shaul being given six game suspensions each by a tribunal for punching.

Hunslet have also seen Keelan Foster given a two match suspension for a Grade D late hit on the passer and Coby Nichol suspended for one game for foul and abusive language towards a match official.
