Championship coach says major signings “could have gone to Salford or Leigh” as he underlines quality

Featherstone Rovers this week completed the signing of Daniel Smith from Castleford Tigers following the completion of a successful loan period.

Smith is now a Featherstone player having previously spent several periods at the club on loan.

Speaking of signing for the club, Smith commented; “I’ve really enjoyed the environment here at Featherstone, I’m really excited for the rest of the season and to play my part in getting this club into Super League. Playing in front of the Fev fans has been superb and I can’t wait to get out there again.”

Sean Long added; “Another great coup for us, an experienced Super League player who made a real impact in his two week loan period.  He’s fitted into our systems really well, he’s skilful, smart and a hard worker.  He’s a perfect for for our brand of rugby.”

This news came after the signing of impressive NRL youngster Arama Hau.

Speaking on Rovers TV, Sean Long underlined the calibre of the two signings by saying they could have gone to Salford or Leigh or other teams in Super League.

“When you get the signings of the calibre of what we’ve got here now, it just shows the progression and where we’re at as a status as a club.

“They could have gone to Salford or Leigh or wherever but they’re coming to Featherstone. That just shows the progression we’re taking and going forward to become a Super League team.”
