Championship side Oldham have secured the signing of former Queensland Cup man Ewan Moore ahead of the 2026 season.
Moore makes the move over from Burleigh Bears and has penned a one-year deal with the Roughyeds to bolster their pack ranks. The back-rower is 26 years of age but has amassed plenty of experience in the second string competition down under and he’ll be keen to test himself in what is an expanded Championship competition.
Moore started his career with Northern Pride and featured on 76 occasions for the club over a five-season stint in Cairns. He demonstrated that he knows were the try line is in that time, too, touching down on 26 occasions.
He made the move down south to Burleigh Bears for the 2025 season and he was part of the side that won the Queensland Cup premiership. He also scored a try for the Bears, who are an affiliate of Brisbane Broncos, in the State Championship final against New Zealand Warriors’ reserves, but he couldn’t help them to victory.
Ewan Moore joins Championship club Oldham
“I’ve been playing in the Q Cup since 2019, starting with the Northern Pride and then to Burleigh Bears,” Moore said. “We won a comp and I have decided I want to have a crack overseas and everything has worked out with Oldham so I’m looking forward to getting over there.
“I’m a back rower who will get through a lot of work for the boys. I’ve met Josh Drinkwater’s brother Scotty and have played against Riley Dean when he was at Mackay Cutters. Hopefully I will fit in well.
“I have seen the club has been working hard and is very ambitious to get up into Super League and that is very exciting. I want to be at a club that wants to succeed in all areas. Oldham went well last year and it feels very exciting to be a part of.”
Director of rugby Mike Ford said: “He is a tough hard-working young back row who can bend the line back and is an uncompromising tackler. He is coming over to grab the opportunity.”
Oldham have also secured Marcus Geener on a one-year deal after impressing in the Roughyeds ranks last year. Geener, a Waterhead amateur, trained with the Roughyeds in 2025 and managed to earn a senior debut for the club against Bradford Bulls.
He’ll be with the club again in 2026.
