Featherstone Rovers have announced the signing of former Huddersfield Giants man Robson Stevens. The prop has signed a one-year deal with the West Yorkshire side and returns to the English competition after spending a period of time in Australia.
The 22-year-old emerged through the Giants’ youth ranks to make his Super League debut at the age of 19. However, he made just two appearances for the club with most of his game time in England coming with Dewsbury Rams in the Championship.
He signed with Queensland Cup side Mackay Cutters in 2023 and featured 15 times, but he will be heading back home in the off-season having penned a deal with the Flat Cappers, with Featherstone claiming to have seen off competition to secure his signature.
“I’ve taken so much from my time in Australia but I’m ready to head home and take on a new challenge and Featherstone provides me with the perfect opportunity to do that,” the former Huddersfield Giants man told Featherstone.
“My time with Mackay was great but I’ve definitely still got plenty to learn and I’m looking forward to working with James Ford and what is a really talented squad at Fev.
“Growing up in West Yorkshire I know how passionate and vocal the Blue Wall fans are, I’m excited to play in front of them next year.”
Head coach James Ford said of his latest recruit: “Robson is a talented young player who we all believe has plenty of development left in him. He has heavy initial contact and good attention to detail regards his tackle management.
“I’m really looking forward to working with him and watching him compete for a place in our top 17.”
Stevens becomes the latest to make the move to the Millennium Stadium, following Calum Turner, Jayden Hatton, Jordan Williams, Will Jubb, Zach Herring, Sitaleki Akauola, Clay Webb, Derrell Olpherts, Carlos Tuimavave and Toby Boothroyd, who have all been announced over the last few days.
