Championship side Sheffield Eagles have announced the signing of half-back Jack Mallinson ahead of Friday night’s clash with Wigan Warriors. The Eagles take on last year’s quadruple winners in the third round of the Challenge Cup and their squad will be boosted by another creative presence.
Mallinson has penned a two-year deal with the Championship side having spent a period of pre-season training under Craig Lingard. He impressed while featuring as a trialist in the club’s friendly with Doncaster and with the start of the new Championship campaign now just around the corner, he has secured his future in the game for the next couple of seasons.
The 23-year-old is no stranger to the professional environment having come through the academy system at Leeds Rhinos. He has also spent time with Workington Town, Hunslet, Tonneins and Australian side Albury Thunder.
“I am delighted to sign for Sheffield Eagles,” Mallinson told the Sheffield Eagles website after signing for the club. “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to develop as a player and contribute to the team’s success.
“The trial period was challenging but rewarding, and with the calibre of players and coaching staff at the club, the decision to sign was an easy one. I am eager to play my part, in what I hope will be a successful season.”
Mallinson goes straight into Lingard’s squad for Friday’s game against Wigan at Olympic Legacy Park and he’ll be keen to get on the field and make his competitive debut for the South Yorkshire club. He won’t be the only new face in action for the Eagles either, with Jack Walker, Masi Matongo and Jayden Billy among those set to make their bow for the club.
