Championship club Oldham RLFC’s Chairman stands down from role due to ill health

Championship side Oldham RLFC have revealed that club Chairman Bill Quinn has stepped down from his role with immediate effect.

Quinn joined the club just short of three years ago, and alongside former Director of Rugby, Mike Ford, took the Roughyeds from League One to the Championship play-offs in just two seasons.

However, due to ill health, the Chairman has made the decision to step down from his role immediately.

Oldham currently sit 5th in the Betfred Championship after winning seven games from nine so far this season.

Now under the tutelage of Alan Kilshaw, the club have had a number of off-field issues to contend with this year, including disputes with football club Oldham Athletic about the usage of their home ground, Boundary Park.

A club statement was released earlier today [Wednesday] confirming the news.

The statement reads in full:

“With immediate effect Bill Quinn is standing down as Chairman of Oldham Rugby League Football Club due to reasons of ill health.”

“Bill came into the club almost three years ago, and his significant financial input has been instrumental in the club’s rise – not only in winning the League One title, but also in putting together a team that, in both 2025 and this season, has remained competitive at the very top end of the Betfred Championship.”

“All at ORLFC would like to thank Bill for all he has contributed and achieved as Chairman and ask all supporters to respect his and his family’s privacy at a difficult time.”

Everyone at Serious About Rugby League would like to wish Bill Quinn the best and we hope that he makes a full recovery.

If he is unwell – fair enough.
Or is he just escaping from the shambles………….

As an Oldham rugby league fan. I Would like to Thank Bill for the time and money spent bringing our club back from mediocrity.

I didn’t always agree with some of his comments, he always appeared to have the interests of Oldham Rugby League at heart and we as supporters should be grateful.

I hope he recovers swiftly from his illness.

    Good luck Bill
