Championship club joins Super League side’s pre-season training ahead of star man’s testimonial

Jake Webster is an underrated player in the history of the Super League.

The explosive centre played his best rugby at Castleford and was a big part of their greatest ever night in Super League when the Tigers won the League Leaders’ Shield as he ran in four tries.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t stop the Tigers from slipping up in the Grand Final against Leeds Rhinos.

Webster was an underrated figure in that side.

The former Melbourne Storm and Gold Coast Titans centre joined Super League in 2008 with Hull KR prior to a move to Castleford Tigers in 2013, going on to play in a Challenge Cup Final at Wembley in only his second season at the Jungle.

He then spent one year at Bradford Bulls prior to a switch to Keighley Cougars in 2020 where he continues to ply his trade in a star-studded line-up adorned by the arrival of Hull KR star Ben Crooks in 2023.

After 15 years in British rugby league, he has been awarded a testimonial and subsequently the Cougars will meet his former club the Tigers at the start of next year.

In a pre-season friendly, the game will take place on Sunday 22nd January.

The game will be hosted by Keighley and kicks off at 3pm.

Ahead of this, Keighley have spent today training with Lee Radford’s side as they prepeare for a big Championship season after promotion last year.

They have made some huge signings such as Ben Crooks from Hull KR who will have been right at home at his father’s, Lee, former club.
