Championship boss has his say on Leeds Rhinos head coach vacancy

Hull KR vs Wigan Warriors

The Leeds Rhinos head coaching vacancy has been the major focal point of most rugby league fans since Richard Agar departed the club over a fortnight ago.

Since then, a whole host of names have been mentioned including the likes of Danny Ward, Shane Flanagan and Ryan Carr.

However, one Championship head coach has perhaps been overlooked.

That man is Halifax Panthers boss Simon Grix who helped steer the Panthers to a brilliant Challenge Cup semi-final where his team fought hard against St Helens before eventually going down 26-2.

Then, in 2021, Grix inspired Fax to third in the Championship and the play-off semi-final where they eventually lost out to Featherstone Rovers.

However, when asked about the opening at Leeds and whether Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington had contacted him, Grix said:

“No, no he’s not. I’m quite happy where I am,” Grix told the Halifax Courier.

“I’m very comfortable here and learning my trade here at a club which means a lot to me. I won’t be going anywhere any time soon I would imagine.

“Leeds are in a tough spot, but they’ve got a lot of good people at the club who will make the right decisions to put them back on track. I’m sure they will appoint the right bloke and turn it around because they’ve got some quality there.”
