The Betfred Championship has a new home in 2023.
The Championship’s big day out initially started at Blackpool before moving to Leeds Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium in 2022 but only attracted a crowd of 10,000.
In 2023 it will take place at York RLFC’s LNER Stadium over the weekend of 27-28th May.
It will host all seven fixtures from that round of the Championship as well as a Women’s Super League clash between Warrington Wolves and York.
However, unlike in previous years, only two of the games will be shown on TV.
London Broncos vs Toulouse Olympique and Featherstone Rovers vs hosts York will be shown on Viaplay Sports – renamed Premier Sports.
It’s a little surprising as is the change of venue and perhaps speaks to its potential end with IMG’s recommendations also spelling the end of the Magic Weekend in Super League.
Speaking of which, as a pre-cursor to the Magic Weekend Bradford Bulls will take on Newcastle Thunder away ahead of the event at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park.
The full fixture list from the Championship Bash is as follows:
Saturday May 27
Widnes Vikings v Swinton Lions, Whitehaven v Barrow Raiders, London Broncos v Toulouse Olympique, Featherstone Rovers v York Knights
Sunday May 28
Newcastle Thunder v Sheffield Eagles, Halifax Panthers v Batley Bulldogs, Keighley Cougars v Bradford Bulls, York Valkyrie v Warrington Wolves (Betfred Women’s Super League)
