Challenge Cup: When holders Wigan Warriors and every Super League club will learn draw

Round One of the Challenge Cup takes place this weekend but Super League clubs will soon enter the competition with draw details confirmed.

The path to Wembley begins this Saturday on the 11th of January with the first match in this year’s Challenge Cup being broadcast live by the BBC on the iPlayer and BBC Sport app/online. That game sees Waterhead Warriors take on Leigh Miners Rangers with the kick-off slated for 12:30 pm.

Having waited all off-season for a rugby league fix, two come along at once as the Sportsman YouTube channel will then broadcast the fixture between Thatto Heath Crusaders and Orrell St James with kick-off slated for 2:30 pm.

There will be 17 ties in Round One with the victorious clubs heading into Round Two, slated for the weekend of the 25th and 26th of January before Super League clubs enter in Round Three in early February.

Details on when that Round Three draw will take place have now been confirmed as well as information on the Women’s Challenge Cup.

The draw for the third round will take place on Tuesday 14th January, just days after Round One has concluded, with all twelve Super League teams set to enter the hat.

Every Super League side will be drawn away from home against one of the Round Two winners with the draw for Round Two having been made back in December. Several amateur clubs are guaranteed to make it meaning there is the potential for some major giant killings.

The draw will be made at 6:30 pm on Tuesday with the BBC airing it via iPlayer. The Women’s Challenge Cup group stage draw will also be made with St Helens looking to retain their crown and win the competition for a fifth straight time.

That Women’s comp will see the eight Super League teams and four clubs from the Northern Championship drawn into four groups of three with the winners progressing to the semi-finals and playing for a place at Wembley.
