Challenge Cup to visit Barcelona

The oldest trophy in the history of Rugby League will go on a trip to one of the most famous venues in world sport, Camp Nou, the home of FC Barcelona.

Catalans Dragons have been invited to parade the trophy around the famous football ground to continue the celebrations with the rest of Catalonia. Les Dracs have received a rich reception since returning with the trophy and many from the region, including both sides of the Pyrenees, have been in uplifted mood.

A match between two Catalonian clubs, FC Barcelona and Girona FC, will welcome the triumphant Dragons in a unique moment of unity between sports often considered as rivals in the UK.

The reception seen in the Catalan area is further proof of their commitment to improving the quality of the European game and with 100,000 football fans set to take a glimpse of the famous trophy, many of whom I assume will not have watch much of the game previously, a big stride is being taken for Rugby League on the International stage.
