After three and a half superb quarter-finals, we now know the draw for the Challenge Cup semi-finals. They should be a pair of classic encounters as four brilliant teams look to claim a place at Wembley on July 17th.
The first name pulled out of the hat was Hull FC. The Black and Whites were brilliant in victory over Wigan today. They’re set to take on Super League Champions St Helens. The Saints are most certainly the favourites as they look to end their 13 year wait for the Challenge Cup trophy. They’re taking on a side who have had an affinity with the cup in recent years winning it in back to back seasons in 2016 and 2017. This is the best looking Hull side since 2017 and they could very well claim a third Challenge Cup in six season. Interestingly, it’ll be a repeat of the 2008 final – the last time St Helens won the cup.
In the other semi-final Warrington will take on the winner of Castleford v Salford. The Wolves have dominated the cup over the last 13 years only failing to make it to the semis twice since 2008. They could take on their future coach should Daryl Powell’s Castleford claim the win today. However, it could be a repeat of last year’s semi-final if Salford can find a way to defeat the Tigers.
The semi-finals will be played on Saturday 5th June and will be part of a triple header with the Women’s Challenge Cup Final.
