Draw details for the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup have been released by the RFL. The fourth round of the competition takes places this weekend, with eight ties scheduled to be played out between Friday and Sunday.
As such, eight teams will progress to the quarter-finals of the competition and move to within two wins of a date at Wembley in June. The draw for the quarters will take place on Monday night, once the round has been completed, and it will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 5 Live.
It will come as part of a ‘Rugby League Hour’ on the radio station, with the BBC putting focus on the sport. The draw is expected to get underway at 9.15pm with four ties to be pulled out.
Of those teams hoping to be in the hat for the next round, 11 of them are Super League clubs, with Castleford Tigers the only top flight outfit to have been eliminated at this stage of the Challenge Cup. They lost to Bradford Bulls at Odsal in the third round, which was played before the start of the Super League season.
The Bulls are one of five lower league teams involved in the fourth round and they take on Salford Red Devils this weekend and with Paul Rowley’s side in turmoil, the Bulls will fancy their chances of another upset.
Batley Bulldogs, Oldham, Widnes Vikings and Featherstone Rovers are the only other Championship sides involved at this stage and they all take on Super League opposition.
The fourth round gets underway on Friday evening with three games being played, including what might just be the tie of the round as St Helens host Leeds Rhinos. The Super League giants go head to head for spot in the final eight and that game will be shown live on The Sportsman’s YouTube channel.
Hull KR welcome Oldham and as mentioned above, Bradford travel to Salford. Saturday sees Widnes host local rivals Warrington Wolves, Catalans Dragons take on Featherstone Rovers and Wigan Warriors play Hull FC. The latter game will be available to watch on the BBC’s red button and iPlayer, with the broadcaster seeing that game as the pick of the bunch.
Leigh Leopards host Batley Bulldogs on Sunday before Huddersfield Giants take on West Yorkshire rivals Wakefield Trinity.
