BBC Sport and The Sportsman have made their live broadcast picks for the fourth round of the Challenge Cup.
The round will take place next month over the weekend of March 14-16, with eight ties being pulled out of the hat last weekend. A clash between Wigan Warriors and Hull FC was one of the standout contests drawn and it comes as no surprise to learn that the BBC have selected it for live coverage.
As such, it has been confirmed that the clash at the Brick Community Stadium will take place on Saturday, March 15, with the game kicking off at 5.45pm. Unfortunately, it seems the clash won’t be shown on one of the BBC’s terrestrial channels, though, with coverage being on iPlayer, the Red Button and on the BBC Sport website.
Of course, Wigan and Hull are two teams steeped in Challenge Cup history and the pair battled it out at Wembley Stadium in 1985 in what many people still believe to be the best Cup final of all time. The two teams will go head to head on Friday in the Super League, too, with Hull looking to build on their opening round win at Catalans Dragons, while Wigan will be reeling from their golden point loss at home to Leigh Leopards.
The Sportsman have selected the tie between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos for live broadcasting. That will be shown on The Sportsman’s official channels on Friday, March 14, with an 8pm kick off time scheduled for that one.
Saints and Leeds have been two of the most successful teams in the modern era and they’ll both see the Challenge Cup as a good opportunity for silverware after difficult campaigns last time around.
Elsewhere, Widnes Vikings have confirmed that their fourth round tie with Warrington Wolves will take place on March 15 at 5pm at the DCBL Stadium. However, the full schedule for the fourth round is yet to be firmed up.
