Centurions announce 6 new signings with more to come

Leigh Centurions handed their fans , who have had to endure an autumn of discount , a real boost for the new season with a bumper day of signings for 2019 .

Already confirmed by the Centurions are Andy Bracek , Iain Thornley , Luke Adamson , Stefan Marsh , Declan O’Donnell and Jonny Pownall with the promise of more to come .

It means a return to the LSV for fans favourite Pownall who scored 60 tries for the Centurions in 90 games between 2011 and 2016 . The 29 year old has spent the last 2 seasons with Toronto , although the end of 2018 was spent on loan at Barrow and Bradford . He links up again with new Leigh Coach John Duffy , they played alongside each other during Pownall’s 1st spell at LSV .

The headline signing is arguably Thornley , who was part of Wigan’s 2013 Double winning squad . The 27 year old also played for Catalans , ironically being part of the Dragons squad that sent Leigh back to the Championship in the 2017 Million Pound game . The former Wigan man has signed a part time contract whilst he combines rugby with training for a new career as an electrician .

Leigh are getting back on their feet after a tumultuous few months which saw most their squad leave towards the end of last season , as they failed to reach the top 4 and a shot at super league . They had to borrow players with special dispensation to be able to field a side in the Championship shield final .

The club yesterday announced that they are out of RFL special measures and had finally mutually agreed terminations to Rhys Evans and Kevin Larroyer’s contracts . Owner Derek Beaumont announced that he had could leave the club in a sound financial base , not now owing anybody apart from AB Sundecks .

Hopefully things are on the up for the Centurions .
