Catalans set to announce third major signing

Catalans Dragons are set to add a third major signing to their ranks as they gear up for another tilt at the Super League Grand Final in 2022.

The French club has already added NRL powerhouses Dylan Napa and Mitchell Pearce, but now another is expected through the door, according to the club’s Twitter account.

That third signing is widely expected to be Grand Final winner Tyrone May, who was sacked by the Penrith Panthers for a social media post that referenced his court case in Australia.

In 2020, May pleaded guilty to four counts of recording intimate images without consent. Following their Grand Final victory the Penrith utility back posted on social media: β€œAnd the dirt that they threw on my name turned to soil and I grew up out it. Time for y’all to figure out what y’all gon’ do about it. Love my brothers”.

May would add a fresh utility tag to the Dragons, with the 25-year-old able to play in the halves, loose forward or even centre, though it remains to be seen how he would displace Pearce and fellow Aussie halfback Josh Drinkwater.

The ex-Penrith man has made 56 appearances for the Panthers – 21 of which came in the 2021 NRL season – registering ten tries in the process.

Catalans are busy trying to gear up to go one better in 2022 after narrowly missing out on a Grand Final victory in 2021, with a 12-10 loss to St Helens capping off a wonderful season in a disappointing fashion.
