Catalans replace Sam Tomkins with new signing set to face Hull KR at Magic Weekend

Catalans Dragons are without talisman Sam Tomkins to take on Hull KR at Magic Weekend but they’ve replaced him in their squad with a new signing.

Reimis Smith is set to debut for the French side after being named to Steve McNamara’s 21-man squad for the game against Super League leaders Hull KR.

Smith is one of two changes alongside Mike McMeeken who returns from injury with the pair replacing Sam Tomkins and Yacine Ben Abdeslem.

The return of McMeeken is a huge boost for Steve McNamara’s side with the big prop forward set to have a big impact if he makes the matchday squad. The England international will depart for Wakefield Trinity at the end of the season but could prove huge in his final few games as a Catalans player.

Meanwhile, recent NRL signing Reimis Smith replaces the injured Sam Tomkins who pulled up in last week’s win over Huddersfield Giants with a hamstring issue.

It had been declared by Sky Sports’ Stuart Pyke that it could be career over for Sam Tomkins but he is expected to return in the regular season.

As for their opponents Hull KR, they’ve named an unchanged side from the one that saw off Castleford Tigers 36-6 as the Robins continue to fare well on the injury front.
