Catalans Dragons ward off rivals with deal for exciting livewire

Arthur Mourgue has signed a new two-year deal at the Catalans Dragons.

Mourgue made his Super League debut in 2018 and he became a regular in Steve McNamara’s team in the 2021 Super League season, making 23 appearances as the Dragons made it all the way to the Grand Final showpiece event, scoring six tries.

As a playmaking utility player, dropping into several different positions, he became one of the attractions in the competition.

Mourgue said:” I’m really happy to sign a new contract with the Dragons and to stay at Perpignan for the next two seasons.

“We had a superb season in 2021 and I am really looking forward to starting the next one.”

Steve McNamara, the Catalans head coach, was understandably happy to get the deal over the line for the youngster.

“Arthur had a real break out season in 2021 and we had no hesitation in offering him an improved deal,” McNamara said.

“We are extremely happy with his progression to date and look forward to helping him continually improve his whole game.”

Mourgue has had to play second fiddle to the evergreen Sam Tomkins in recent seasons, but will no doubt slot straight in when the latter eventually hangs up his boots.
