Catalans Dragons v Salford Red Devils team news amid Kallum Watkins and Chris Atkin latest

Salford Red Devils

Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley has been able to name 20-man squad ahead of Friday night’s Challenge Cup clash with Catalans Dragons in Perpignan.

The Red Devils have been short of numbers in recent weeks as they battle with a raft of injuries and a strict £1.2m sustainability cap that ensures a number of key men remain sidelined, such as Nene Macdonald.

However, Kallum Watkins and Chris Atkin have both been named after reports that the pair refused to play in Salford’s Super League clash with Wigan Warriors last weekend after being paid late for the second month in a row.

Paul Rowley confirmed such news in his pre-match press conference this morning, while he also announced that a number of players would be returning from injury for the Cup clash in Perpignan. Deon Cross, Jayden Nikorima and Chris Hankinson are all included in the fold after overcoming issues, while Joe Mellor has been deemed fit enough to make the cut, too.

It comes as a welcome boost for the Red Devils, who have been short of reasons for cheer in recent weeks. However, Justin Sangare has dropped out through injury after playing at the Brick Community Stadium last weekend.

Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara has made just one change to his squad, having seen his side lose by a point to St Helens last Saturday night. Tariq Sims is the man to come in and he replaces Jordan Dezaria.

Catalans Dragons: Sam Tomkins, Tommy Makinson, Arthur Romano, Reimis Smith, Nick Cotric, Luke Keary, Tevita Pangai Jr, Benjamin Garcia, Julian Bousquet, Tariq Sims, Elliott Whitehead, Oliver Partington, Alrix Da Costa, Chris Satae, Bayley Sironen, Cesar Rouge, Paul Seguier, Theo Fages, Matthieu Laguerre, Franck Maria, Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet.

Salford Red Devils squad: Ryan Brierley, Deon Cross, Jayden Nikorima, Joe Mellor, Chris Hill, Kallum Watkins, Joe Shorrocks, Chris Atkin, Shane Wright, Esan Marsters, Jack Ormondroyd, Matty Foster, Chris Hankinson, Harvey Wilson, Kai Morgan, Nathan Connell, Tiaki Chan, Finley Yates, George Hill, Jonny Vaughan.
