Catalans swept aside Castleford Tigers at The Jungle but sadly a report has been made by a Dragons player over alleged verbal abuse during the French side’s 26-4 win.
Castleford hosted Catalans at Wheldon Road with the game being played in terrible conditions as torrential rain left areas of standing water on the pitch and in the in-goal areas.
That didn’t affect Catalans though with the Dragons dominating from start to finish, particularly due to their superior pack, however, one of those players has allegedly been the victim of verbal abuse.
Jordan Dezaria was allegedly abused by a Castleford Tigers fan as he left the pitch in the second half when subbed off with Sky Sports’ Stuart Pyke reporting the incident live on commentary.
As the game approached a close, Pyke revealed: “News just coming in from the touchline sadly that there are allegations that Jordan Dezaria was verbally abused as he was leaving the pitch behind the posts at the end that the Catalans Dragons are defending by a spectator.
“It has been reported to the Match Commissioner and I’m sure we’ll hear some more about that.”
The Match Commissioner will now investigate the incident with Dezaria likely to provide a statement on the alleged abuse, although plans beyond that are unclear given the immediacy of the situation but the RFL have been contacted for comment.
Dezaria was making his third appearance of the season for the Dragons having previously featured against Warrington Wolves and Leigh Leopards, being sin binned in the latter of those games.
The 28-year-old did return to the field and finished the game as Catalans saw out a second consecutive Super League win to help bolt them up the table following a poor start that saw them lose three from three.
