Catalans Dragons star Sam Tomkins speaks on Jackson Hastings’ Super League exit

Sam Tomkins has done it all in rugby league.

From winning multiple Super League Grand Finals and Challenge Cups, Tomkins will forever be remembered at one particular club – Wigan Warriors.

There he won three Grand Finals and two Challenge Cups before making the move to NRL side New Zealand Warriors.

Like the current Catalans Dragons fullback, Jackson Hastings has made the move from Super League to Australia after impressing greatly for both Salford Red Devils and Wigan.

But, the former Wigan halfback received criticism, according to Tomkins, for not declaring where he was moving to earlier in 2021.

However, for Tomkins, that is something that just cannot be done – for legal reasons.

“That (Hastings deal) was a done deal a long time ago and people were giving him hassle for not saying what he is doing,” Tomkins told the Trot The Egg In podcast.

“I don’t know the bloke but I’m pretty sure he would have been in the situation where he couldn’t say what he was doing.

“It’s not a good position to be in but again you’ve got no other option.”

Hastings made the move to Wests Tigers ahead of the 2022 NRL season and starred in the club’s recent win over Sydney Roosters in a pre-season trial.
