Catalans Dragons star Sam Tomkins cited by Disciplinary Match Review Panel for bizarre reason

Well, that’s another weekend of Super League action done and dusted and what a weekend it was!

First, Leeds Rhinos absolutely flattened the Wigan Warriors on Thursday night in a 42-12 demolition which took almost everyone by surprise before Castleford Tigers smashed Hull FC in a 46-18 drubbing.

The second game on Friday night saw Warrington Wolves once more lost under Daryl Powell as the Cheshire club went down 30-22 to Hull KR at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

There was jubilation in the stands at the Stade Gilbert Brutus as Catalans Dragons managed a 13-12 win over Huddersfield Giants courtesy of a last minute drop goal from Sam Tomkins on Saturday afternoon, whilst Salford Red Devils kept up their remarkable run of form with a hard-fought 24-11 victory away at Toulouse Olympique.

Only one game was scheduled for Sunday with St Helens expected to go to Wakefield Trinity and win handsomely. However, the West Yorkshire side had other ideas and pushed the reigning champions all the way as Saints had to rely on Jack Welsby to slot over the winning drop goal in golden point.

However, following the latest round of Betfred Super League fixtures, the following sanctions have been issued.

Ligi Sao – Hull FC – Grade D Strikes – Refer to Tribunal
Leroy Cudjoe – Huddersfield Giants – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Jake Mamo – Castleford Tigers – Grade B Disputes Decision – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Connor Wynne – Hull FC – Grade A Disputes Decision – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Daniel Alvaro – Toulouse Olympique – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Korbin Sims – Hull KR – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Kelepi Tanginoa – Wakefield Trinity – Grade A Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice

However, amongst those cited was Catalans man Tomkins for one of the most bizarre reasons.

The Disciplinary Match Review Panel’s minutes states: “Player touches touch judge to consult if injured. Touch judge responds with hand gesture so accepts the gesture.”

Somehow, Tomkins has been cited for checking if a touch judge is ok.
