Catalans Dragons’ Sam Tomkins labels Super League rivals as ‘boring’

When it comes to being a good Super League side, a lot of things have to be taken into consideration.

One of the main ones is completing high in your sets to ensure pressure can be turned into points, and, one of the best sides at doing that in the top flight is Huddersfield Giants.

The Giants have been flying under Ian Watson in 2022, getting to the Challenge Cup Final – where they narrowly went down to the Wigan Warriors – and consolidating their place in the top four of Super League as the business end of the year approaches.

For Channel 4 guest pundit, Sam Tomkins though, he believes that Ian Watson’s side are ‘boring’.

“I said they are a boring side in the nicest possible way,” Tomkins said live on Channel 4 during Huddersfield’s loss to the Salford Red Devils last weekend.

“They repeat the same thing over and over again and knowing what coming is easy but defending it is the difficult part, but they complete higher than any other team in Super League.”

The Catalans Dragons fullback does, however, believe that Huddersfield need more weapons in their arsenal for the end of season challenges in order to overcome both St Helens and Wigan Warriors.

“When you play Huddersfield you have to compete for the full 80 but come the end of the year they are going to have to add to their normal style of play to beat some of the top teams like Saints and Wigan.”

Tomkins’ Catalans side are also up there in the top four with some great tussles taking place between the two sides in Super League so far this season.

Of course, the former Wigan Warriors fullback will be wanting to go one better in 2022 after coming so close last season, losing in the Grand Final to reigning champions Saints.

Your side shouldn’t even be allowed to compete in Super League. Catalans and Toulouse should be competing in the French league to grow the game over in France.
