Catalans Dragons have missed out on the Super League play-offs on points difference, while Hull FC have narrowly avoided the wooden spoon.
Thanks to Warrington Wolves beating London Broncos 54-0, Hull FC just had to avoid a pasting of similar margins to stay 11th, and avoid the embarrassment of finishing bottom.
It was the Black and Whites that scored first, as a Morgan Smith across the field was collected by Lewis Martin, who reached out to make it 4-0.
However, the kick wasn’t converted, and despite a period of pressure from the away side, Catalans then went ahead due to Chris Satae powering his way over the line.
Early in the second half, a good passing move on the left resulted in the video referee taking a quick look before awarding a try, with Matthieu Laguerre the scorer.
Soon after, it was fisticuffs, and the next ten minutes were penalty-stricken, with both sides struggling to keep hold of the ball.
Catalans made the most of this period, with Arthur Mourgue kicking a penalty and stretching the margin to eight points mid-way through the half.
Almost immediately after, he was in the points column again, this time scoring a try after a mazy break from Theo Fages, strolling through the Hull FC defence to make it look more comfortable.
Danny Houghton was denied a try on his final Hull FC appearance due to a knock-on, and Tom Johnstone managed to touch-down with an acrobatic attempt at the other end to pile on the misery for the Black and Whites, making the final score 24-4 to the Dragons.
This leaves Hull FC on just six points and three wins for the entire season – that’s fewer wins than the number of quota players that left mid-way through the season.
It’s also a disappointing campaign for Catalans Dragons, missing out on the play-offs despite being in the Grand Final last season.
