Catalans Dragons hooker Alrix Da Costa locks in Super League club for 2023 after being linked with move

Catalans Dragons hooker Alrix Da Costa has locked in a Super League club for 2023 after being heavily linked with a move away.

The number nine has been playing understudy to former Wigan Warriors hooker Michael McIlorum in recent years, but was linked with a Super League transfer earlier in the season.

However, Catalans have now got their man with Da Costa signing a new two-year deal with the French club.

The France International hooker has put pen to paper on a contract extension that will secure his future at the Gilbert Brutus Stadium until the end of the 2024 season.

Born in Limoux, the young hooker signed his first professional contract in 2016 after being captain of of the Dragons Academy team.

His good performances secured him a place in the professional squad, helping him to make his first Super League appearance. In 2017, he made his debut with France. Following a successful 2017 season, he was awarded club Rookie of the Year.

He played seven Super League games so far this season and has made 85 appearances for the Dragons since his debut in 2016, becoming one of the French side’s most consistent performers.

Da Costa was more than happy to sign the extension: “I’ve been at this club since 2016 and I really feel like home. It’s a team that plays in the top of the Super League table and that’s what I want.

“I am very happy and I thank all the people who have renewed their trust me.”

The Catalans head coach, Steve McNamara, was also happy to see Da Costa sign on the dotted line: “We are very happy with Alrix’s development and are pleased he has agreed to stay.

“He is the current 1st choice hooker for France who has shown great patience whilst vying for game time along with Micky McIlorum.

“We are certain he will continue to improve and play a big role in the club’s future.”
