Catalans Dragons confirm French international to join Super League rivals

Super League

Catalans Dragons’ production line has produced several top players in recent years, as the Super League club continues to go from strength to strength. Having made the 2023 Grand Final, Les Dracs are currently level on points with Super League’s top side, Wigan Warriors.

The side from Perpignan was once criticised for the lack of French players on their side. However, that is not the case now. The Dragons regularly field a strong group of high-quality, home-grown players, including an all-French core of Arthur Mourgue, Theo Fages, Cesar Rouge, and Alrix Da Costa.

The Dragons face a crucial clash against the Warrington Wolves this weekend. However, they will do so without one of their international players. The Catalans club has confirmed that a French international will depart the club. He will immediately join one of their Super League rivals for the rest of the season.

Ugo Tison made his Catalans debut in 2022, having started his career with Saint-Esteve XIII Catalan. He made four appearances for the side from Perpignan during that season. Last year, he spent spells on loan at Toulouse Olympique and Wakefield Trinity, but found opportunities with Les Dracs limited.

He joined London Broncos on loan earlier this season, and now that move has been made permanent. A statement on the London website, confirming the deal stated:

London Broncos can announce Ugo Tison has joined the club on a permanent deal from Catalans Dragons.

“The 22-year old hooker or half-back joined on an initial month loan in April but will now be staying at the club until at least the end of the season.

“The French international has featured in every game since arriving in London including the recent victory over Hull FC.”

Tison joins fellow Frenchman, Hakim Miloudi, in a burgeoning group of French players at London.

Tison is a versatile player, who is able to cover at half-back and at hooker. He made his French international debut in 2023, playing in the game against England at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Having struggled to break into the Catalans’ first team regularly, Tison will be hoping to establish himself as a Super League regular for London for the rest of the season.

Tison will be in the London squad for their home clash against Hull KR this weekend. The Broncos come into the game as underdogs, however, having beaten KR’s near neighbours in their last outing, their confidence will be high.

Following the victory over FC, London coach, Mike Eccles, spoke passionately about the need for London to remain in Super League. He explained that the club would be putting together a proposal for IMG and the RFL in an attempt to avoid relegation.
