Catalans Dragons boss opens up on rough start to season and Leeds Rhinos

Catalans Dragons coach Steve McNamara is looking for his side to right some wrongs when they face Leeds Rhinos at home on Saturday evening.

McNamara was critical of his side following their 34-6 defeat against Leigh Leopards last Friday.

The Dragons were tipped by many to be dark horses in 2025 but have nothing to show for it so far with zero points.

The Catalans Dragons coach said he was still optimistic but admitted they need some results quickly.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Leeds game, he said: “We have to perform really well, we have to put in our best performance of the season.

“We have to work out how we’re going to do that which we’ve started and that’s the key for it this week. If you perform well, you give yourself the best chance of winning.

“If you just focus on winning, you’re not going to go through the process that you need to get there.

“We understand losing the first three games is not a great position for us to be in but we were also really disappointed with not only the loss but the performance last week.

“If we concentrate on the performance, I think the wins will look after themselves. ”

He’s hoping that they can replicate their performance against Warrington, arguably their best so far this season.

He added: “You can accept losing when you perform probably the way we did at Warrington. We don’t like that, it’s not an ideal situation.

“We felt we should’ve won that game but obviously, we travelled back to the same part of the world seven days later and we looked completely different team.

“We looked like a shadow of the team that went to Warrington and that was the disappointing thing.”

This will be Catalans first home game since the first round so they’re hoping they can put on a show in front of them

He said: “The fans were disappointed with that first performance here, they’ll be disappointed that we’ve not picked up any wins away from home.

“At the same time, I know they’ll encourage and support the team really well on Saturday night.

“Once we settle down and get into it, which hopefully will start this week, we’ll be very hard to play against and very hard to beat.

When previewing the Leeds game, he was complimentary of what Brad Arthur has achieved with his squad.

He finished: “They’ve certainly changed the dynamics of their team, the way they approach the game.

“They’re certainly a lot more of a physical team than they were twelve months ago and they will be a good challenge.”

Catalans Dragons coach Steven McNamara and his side will host Leeds at Stade Gilbert Brutus on Saturday evening, live on Sky Sports+ and Super League+.
