Catalans Dragons coach Steve McNamara thought his side deserved to win against Warrington last night but insisted that they’re getting closer to their goals.
Following his side’s 18-12 defeat to Warrington, McNamara was full of praise for his Dragons players and insisted that they’re getting closer to what he knows they’re capable of.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, McNamara said: “I thought we were good, I thought we defended great.
“I thought we caused some trouble with our offloads and our shifts and we dominated with our field position and possession.
“I thought we were the better team on the night and dominated a lot of areas.”
He also knows that it’s a tough league this season but knows his side have worked a tough pre-season to prepare themselves for it.
He added: “We’ve lost our first two here but I know deep down that this team is built for a long season.
“We’ve prepared for a long season but the first two results haven’t gone our way and it’s disappointing.”
McNamara was more than happy with their performance against the Wolves but knows they should’ve done better to get their first two points on the board.
The Dragons coach finished: “We’ve got to keep improving in all the areas and keep the good things that we’re doing.
“Like I said, we dominated field position and possession last week.
“I haven’t got the exact stats but I think we’ve done that again tonight.
“We broke more tackles, we made more offloads, we shifted the ball more, we defended well, we’ve just got to get that ball over the tryline on a few more occasions.
“We just didn’t execute some plays on the edge as well as we should’ve done and it’s quite clear that that’s the area we need to work on.”
With two games under their belt and zero points to show for it, Catalans Dragons need to improve much quicker to start moving up the table.
