It’s been a tough start to the season for Catalans Dragons but with four wins in their last five games, head coach Steve McNamara wants his side to keep progressing as the season continues.
He’s picked out the next four Super League games as crucial points to pick up and whilst he’s thrilled his side are through to the Challenge Cup semi-finals, they have to put that to one side for now.
Even a sizeable win against a struggling Huddersfield Giants side on Sunday afternoon would only move them up one place in the table.
McNamara admitted that they need to focus during a busy April before their semi-final against Hull KR in May.
He said to Catalans media: “It’s good to be in the semi-finals, that’s done and dusted, and now we get four games in the Super League and it’s a really important period for the team right now.
“We need to maximise these next four weeks and it starts with a tricky, tough game for us at Huddersfield this weekend.”
The Catalans Dragons head coach pointed out that his team have often struggled against the Giants in the past but is eager to make sure the two points go back to Catalans with them.
He added: “I know that every time we’ve played Huddersfield, we’ve had tough games over the whole history that I’ve been here and they’ve always played well against us so we’re expecting a tough game there.
They’ve been winning most games at half-time and they’ve just not quite over the finishing line.
Huddersfield are still without a point, sitting at the bottom of the pack so far in 2025 and whilst McNamara knows the Giants need the two points, his side needs to start closing the gap to those above them too.
He finished: “I’m sure they’re desperate to get their first win. We’re equally as desperate to get two points and stay in contention with the rest of the team in the competition.”
Catalans Dragons travel to Huddersfield Giants on Sunday afternoon with a 3pm kick-off and the game is live on Sky Sports+ and Super League+.
