Catalans Dragons boss Steve McNamara was less than impressed by his side’s performance on Friday night.
The Dragons put in a poor showing, losing 34-6 to Leigh Leopards, who themselves had a few injuries pre-match to contend with.
Head coach McNamara laid into his players and bemoaned just how poor they were across the park.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he said: “We were a world apart from last week’s performance.
“You can accept losing at certain stages and I could last week. I thought we looked a good team last week
“We were so far off it tonight to where we were last week and I need to find the answers why.”
Even with a changed Leigh side, with no David Armstrong as well as multiple injuries during the match, the Leopards continued their unbeaten start to the season.
McNamara was complimentary of Leigh’s performance but was surprised by his own side’s efforts.
Talking to the media post-match, McNamara said: “Leigh didn’t surprise me; my own team surprised me.
“We were a million miles away from our performance last week. You can’t let your standard drop like that in seven days.
“We were so poor in so many areas.”
The Catalans boss also discussed Jordan Dezaraia’s sin-bin just before half-time.
McNamara finished: “It was terrible. Just terrible to give a yellow card away at that stage.
“It was clearly a professional foul. We’ll speak about that to him in due course.”
Catalans sit in 11th position in the Super League table, with just Salford Red Devils below them.
Considering many pundits had them as a surprise package for 2025, they’ve struggled to find combinations across the park in all three of their matches so far.
The Catalans Dragons boss will need to find some inspiration from his squad as they will still be without key players Theo Fages and Sam Tomkins for some time, as well as Arthur Mourgue, who missed the Leigh match also.
McNamara’s Catalans side host Leeds Rhinos next Saturday at 5.30pm UK time.
