Catalans Dragons announce latest 2025 deal as centre signs

Catalans Dragons have tied down France international Matthieu Laguerre to a new one-year deal.

Laguerre was in possession of an expiring deal, but the French club have secured his services for one more year at least with the club holding the option to extend the deal by another season.

It means the centre will continue his long-standing association with Catalans, having joined the club’s academy as a youngster in 2017. Laguerre has made 42 appearances for the club since, with 11 coming this season after playing a bit part role under Steve McNamara.

The Frenchman will be part of a talented backline next season with the club already moving to add the likes of Nick Cotric and Tommy Makinson for the 2025 season onwards. Laguerre, who is now 25 years of age, has touched down on 18 occasions for the club and he will be looking to kick on next season and underline his worth to the Stade Gilbert Brutus cause.

“I am very happy to extend my contract with the Dragons,” the centre told the Catalans’ official website. “I would like to thank the club and the staff for their trust, and I will continue to give my best every time I wear the Catalan jersey. I will keep working hard to continue my progress.”

Head coach McNamara added: “We are happy to re-sign Matthieu who is continuing to develop and gain confidence in his game. We feel he is ready to take his game to the next level over the coming period.”

Laguerre was involved off the bench in Catalans’ last outing against Leeds and he’ll be looking to make his impact felt over the remaining weeks of the campaign as the Dragons push to claim a play-off spot.
