Catalans Dragons quota spots assessed with options available after three NRL signings

After a disappointing 2024 campaign, Catalans Dragons will now look to make major changes.

The loss of players such as Adam Keighran and Sam Tomkins after their 2023 Grand Final defeat was disappointing, but the club made three quota signings in an attempt to go one further.

They looked to the NRL for the signing of Tariq Sims, who was signed from Melbourne Storm after over 100 games playing for St George Illawarra Dragons.

Also brought over was Bayley Sironen, another forward, signed from the New Zealand Warriors.

Meanwhile, yet another forward – Chris Satae – was also signed from Hull FC, showing a clear intent to make the pack one of the biggest in Super League.

However, the season culminated with disappointment, missing out on a play-off berth.

Currently, clubs can have a maximum of seven ‘non-Federation trained players’ in their squad – and these players are defined as those who didn’t play three seasons of rugby in Europe before they turned 21.

With that in mind, here’s the Catalans Dragons quota situation ahead of 2025.

Siosiua Taukeiaho and Jayden Nikorima saw their contracts terminated mid-season, and this left them spots free to sign Jarrod Wallace, who left the club following the end of the 2024 Super League season.

Also leaving are Manu Ma’u and Matt Ikuvalu, following the expiration of their own contracts, leaving a hole in the squad.

That leaves just Chris Satae, Tariq Sims and Bayley Sironen contracted through 2025 of their current players.

However, they have signed prop Tevita Pangai Junior from The Dolphins, and he has a one-year contract in Perpignan.

In addition, former Sydney Roosters half Luke Keary has signed through 2026, adding another big name to their ranks.

Finally, Nick Cotric was signed from Canberra Raiders for next year, and the winger is signed on a three-year deal through 2027.

As such, there is one quota spot available for the club which could see them active in the market throughout the pre-season, or perhaps play their cards close to their chest and strike early next season if and when certain NRL targets become available.
