Catalans Dragons have released their squad numbers for the upcoming 2025 Super League season. The French outfit have been busy over the off-season with six new signings arriving at the club to give the squad something of a fresh feel.
All six of those new recruits have been handed shirt numbers inside the club’s top 13, with Tommy Makinson and Nick Cotric being handed the two and five shirts respectively. Luke Keary, who has joined from Sydney Roosters, has unsurprisingly been given the number six shirt, while Tevita Pangai Jr will wear eight.
Elliott Whitehead takes up the Dragons‘ number 12, while Ollie Partington will play with the number 13 on his back following a something of a surprise pack switch. Benjamin Garcia will now wear the number nine shirt in a move that suggests the club captain could be seen at hooker in 2025.
Garcia has played the role on the odd occasion over the last four or five years but the change in number could point to a more permanent switch being made down the line. Sam Tomkins takes one after stepping out of retirement to help the Dragons last season and that sees Arthur Mourgue, who is expected to join Hull KR for 2026, given the seven jersey.
Reimis Smith has four, while Theo Fages must make do with the number 21 shirt in a move that might just suggest he has work to do if he is to feature regularly this season. Matthieu Laguerre has also slipped out of the top 13, with the centre set to wear 23.
Of course, in the grand scheme of things the squad numbers mean very little, but on the eve of the new season it does appear to provide a slight insight into Steve McNamara’s thinking.
