Catalans could lose Sam Tomkins

Catalans Dragons fans will have been ruing their luck when they saw Sam Tomkins limp off during the French side’s 12-8 defeat to Wigan Warriors on Friday night.

The Dragons were pegged back by the wayward boot of mercurial halfback James Maloney, who uncharacteristically missed the conversion attempts to Tom Davies’ and Mathieu Laguerre’s efforts, but the sight of Tomkins in a leg brace didn’t go down well with Catalans head coach Steve McNamara.

McNamara was, however, determined not to go too far overboard with the potential injury.

“Sam’s got a sore knee, he felt it, came off straight away and hopefully that has minimised the damage,” said McNamara.

“We’ll look at it and see how he pulls up.

“We’re not too sure, we’ll see how he is. If he’s fit, great, if he’s not we’ll have to get another player to fill that position. There’s no point worrying or stressing about it.”
