Castleford Tigers have allowed one of their youngsters to go on loan to the Championship, in a bid to aid his development.
Sam Grice has joined West Yorkshire outfit Hunslet RLFC for the remainder of the season, as he looks to earn his first opportunity at senior level.
The forward has featured for the Tigers’ reserves this season, and has featured in both the back row and at loose forward.
He is yet to make his Super League debut, but a strong showing in the second tier could progress his chances of an appearance under Ryan Carr, who has been vocal about his want to see the next generation come through.
Grice joins a Hunslet side that sit 15th in the Championship, having won five out of 16 matches.
The Parksiders have had to rely on loans a lot this season, with the likes of Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC previously sending out their next generation to the club to help cover their injuries.
Hunslet travel to Cumbria this week to take on Workington Town, in a game that could see the youngster make his debut.
Castleford’s Director of Rugby, Chris Chester, commented on the loan move, saying: “This loan will allow Sam to get some valuable game time under his belt in a good competition, and help his Rugby League development by playing senior rugby on a regular basis.”
