Castleford Tigers winger heads on loan to Championship club

York City Knights have confirmed the signing of James Clare from Castleford Tigers on loan.

30-year-old Clare comes to the Knights with a wealth of experience at both Super League and Championship level and played a starring role for the Knights back in 2015, scoring nine tries during a dual-registration spell from the Tigers.

The contract for Clare’s loan deal was signed last month and, currently, expires next week.

With centre Jacob Ogden currently waiting on the sidelines for his competitive Knights debut due to a knee issue, Clare’s arrival provides James Ford with further options in the threequarters and he is available for selection for this Sunday’s Betfred Championship match against Leigh Centurions – one of Clare’s former clubs.

On Clare’s acquisition, Head Coach Ford said: “I’m really pleased to be in a position to bring James to the Club. He’s someone I’ve had the pleasure of working with on previous occasions.

“He’s an outstanding professional and leader who will facilitate the learning and development of our young outside backs. He’s also a Super League quality player who will add punch and strike to our team.”

Meanwhile, his parent club Castleford could not have started their season off much worse with two losses in two games under new head coach Lee Radford.

Last night’s 34-10 loss to Warrington Wolves was the first time Radford had taken on Daryl Powell at his new club.
