Castleford Tigers vs Wakefield Trinity: Team news, match preview and score prediction

Tis a famous West Yorkshire derby this week in Super League as Castleford Tigers host rivals Wakefield Trinity.

The two clubs are enjoying very different fortunes of late. The Tigers are in great form and cemented inside the top six at present whilst Wakefield remain at the foot of the table with relegation becoming a real threat.

They were great against St Helens last week and were unlucky to come away from the fixture without a win but now the Tigers stand in their way in a fixture Trinity have a terrible record in. Can they finally get a win over their near neighbours?

Team News

The Tigers have lost Gareth O’Brien and Alex Mellor to concussion protocols this week. Liam Watts is back from a back whilst Kieran Hudson could make his Super League debut after spending the season on loan with Whitehaven.

Wakefield have lost Kelepi Tanginoa and Jorge Taufua after last week’s great performance against St Helens which sadly ended in defeat. Rob Butler could return after his ban, Kyle Evans doesn’t feature in the squad as Taufua’s replacement on the wing so it very well could be the returning Lee Kershaw. Corey Hall should return to the side as well.

Match Preview – Key Battles:

Greg Eden vs Jamie Shaul: Two pacey fullbacks who are less like playmakers and more like potent attacking weapons, neither are considered their club’s first choice fullback but both could light this fixture up.

Danny Richardson vs Mason Lino: Mason Lino will have something to prove after missing two drop goal attempts in the defeat to St Helens. A great player, he’ll be good to watch tomorrow as will opposite number Danny Richardson who will have to lead his team with so many key playmakers injured.

Where the game will be won and lost:

Last week Wakefield managed to front up against the best pack in Super League in the shape of St Helens. They’ll have to do something similar here to shut down the Tigers otherwise Cas could build a good platform and begin to poke holes in Trinity’s defence.

Score Prediction: Castleford Tigers 22-20 Wakefield Trinity
