St Helens head coach Paul Wellens has made two changes to his 21-man squad to take on Castleford Tigers this week. The Saints will be on a high after dishing out a record breaking defeat to Salford Red Devils last Saturday to end round one on top of the Super League table.
They’ll be looking to build on that this Saturday when they travel to Wheldon Road to take on Danny McGuire’s Castleford, who took Hull KR to golden point last week before losing thanks to a Mikey Lewis drop goal.
Lewis Murphy drops out of the fold with the winger looking at a lay-off of two months or so after suffering a hamstring tear in the win over Salford. Moses Mbye has also been omitted, with the playmaker yet to make an appearance in the Super League this season.
Jake Burns and George Whitby are the two called up to replace Murphy and Mbye, with the youngsters hopeful of getting some game time.
Castleford boss McGuire has also made two changes to his squad list with Lee Kershaw in line for a debut after joining on loan from Hull KR earlier this week. Alex Mellor is also included after missing out in round one.
Ben Davies’ initial loan with Castleford is over and he won’t be involved for either club, while Will Tate is the other man to drop out of the fold, with the outside back set to have surgery on an ankle injury.
