Castleford Tigers forward Joe Westerman has outlined his dreams for the club as well as addressing his own personal future.
Westerman is a veteran in Super League with the forward currently entering his 19th season of professional rugby league and he’s spoken on the prospect of whether it will be his last.
The 35-year-old is one of ten Castleford Tigers players off contract at the end of the season alongside the likes of fellow veterans George Griffin and Liam Watts.
Westerman was actually the 13th oldest player to star in Super League in 2024 and with a handful of those ahead of him leaving the competition, he’s set to move into the top ten.
Ahead of his upcoming testimonial against former club Hull FC, he has spoken to the club’s media about how important it was that he returned, and what is still to come.
“It was massive for me,” Westerman said when talking about his return to the club back in 2022, rejoining the club after first exiting at the end of the 2010 season.
“It’s my hometown club and I’ve supported Cas since I was six years old. I signed my first contract here and loved it here.”

Westerman debuted for the Tigers when they were still in the Championship and scored two tries in the Grand Final to help secure Super League promotion. His first spell with the club saw him record over 100 appearances before he made the switch to Hull FC, the club he will face in his testimonial in the first week of February.
“I moved from here to Hull and I always wanted to come back but I wanted to come back when there was something left in me and that I knew I could play to a level that helped the team,” he explained before revealing his intent to play on as long as that remains the case.
“I think whilst I can keep doing that then I’ll keep playing.”
As a Castleford fan from childhood, Westerman has high hopes for the Tigers with silverware being the ultimate goal for the 35-year-old.
He explained: “All I want is Cas to get bigger and better and hopefully start pushing for stuff. If not this year then next year but that’s me, I want to make Castleford as good as I can.
“It would be my dream come true. Steele Retchless broke my heart at Leeds’ stadium when he scored and I thought we were going to Wembley that year. I was only a kid but I was crying then.
“To win something would be massive for me and for my family. I’m getting a bit older now so I haven’t got long left so we better get our act together this year.”
