Reported Castleford Tigers transfer collapses as target joins different club

Reported Castleford Tigers target James Roumanos has joined a new club in the Championship with the Lebanon international becoming the second signing at Toulouse Olympique.

This comes after the club were unable to open up a quota spot to sign him for next year.

James was born in 1999 in the south-west suburbs of Sydney and made his debut in the New South Wales Cup with the Canterbury Bulldogs at the age of 18. After a regular season with 19 games played, the global pandemic pulled the rug out from under him.

He signed with Mount Pritchard in 2021, where he rubbed shoulders with Reubenn Rennie. The following year he was drafted by the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles, also in the NSW Cup, and made 14 appearances before making his first NRL appearance with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. In 2023, he signed with the Wests Tigers and had a full season with 24 games played for 1 try scored.

Since his debut in 2019, James has also been called up to the Lebanese national team, he has played 5 games including 4 at the last World Cup, with a quarter-final defeat against Australia.

With 70 games under his belt in the NSW Cup and a World Cup with Lebanon, James is the second signing of the year to join the TO XIII after winger Paul Ulberg.

Toulouse head coach Sylvain Houles said: “James really fits the profile of the players we were looking for, a young international player who has played in the NRL. He is a player who can play long minutes, a hard worker and who excels in all the details of the game. We are delighted to have him with us and look forward to getting started.”

James Roumanos said: “I’m very excited about the idea of joining Toulouse. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the club and the city. I am very grateful to the TO for giving me this opportunity and I can’t wait to come in and start working with the team.”

As for Castleford, they could still make another signing ahead of 2024 according to Head of Recruitment Danny Wilson but it will not Roumanos now that he has joined Toulouse Olympique for the 2024 season as they prepare for a Super League push.
