Castleford Tigers star signing to sit out friendly

Castleford Head Coach Lee Radford has selected a 22-man squad to take on Huddersfield Giants in the Tigers’ final pre-season run out of 2023.

The match will mark a special day for one club man Nathan Massey who will celebrate his incredible seventeen years of service to the Tigers at Wheldon Road at his testimonial match on Sunday.

Radford’s pack come into the contest against fellow Super League opposition on the back of a comfortable victory at Championship side Whitehaven last weekend and Cas will be aiming to build momentum in time for the start of the Super League season on home turf.

A number of First Team regulars were handed their first hit out of pre-season at the LEL Arena and Tigers fans will be excited to see more stars added to the squad list this time around.

Niall Evalds, Paul McShane, and Joe Westerman are all in line to make their first friendly appearances. Arguably Cas’ standout signing of 2023 Gareth Widdop could potentially run out at The Jungle for the first time as a Castleford player.

Fellow half-back Jacob Miller was scheduled to make his maiden Castleford appearance this weekend, however, after picking up a slight knock in training he has been withdrawn from the squad as a precaution.

Full Squad: Jack Broadbent, Kenny Edwards, Niall Evalds, Bureta Faraimo, Mahe Fonua, George Griffin, George Lawler, Jake Mamo, Nathan Massey, Suaia Matagi, Paul McShane, Alex Mellor, Adam Milner, Muizz Mustapha, Cain Robb, Daniel Smith, Alex Sutcliffe, Jordan Turner, Albert Vete, Liam Watts, Joe Westerman, Gareth Widdop
