Castleford Tigers star assesses signings and sends message to doubters

Castleford Tigers star Liam Horne has sent a defiant message to those who might be doubting the club ahead of the 2025 Super League season.

Horne, who has recently returned to the UK after representing Papua New Guinea in the Pacific Championships has spoken on the club’s YouTube channel to assess the club’s new signings, discuss pre-season and also send a defiant message to anyone who might doubt the club.

Whilst Down Under representing PNG, he played alongside two of the club’s new signings in Judah Rimbu and Jeremiah Simbiken, as well as fellow teammate Sylvster Namo.

Asked what the PNG boys will bring to Wheldon Road in 2025, Horne explained: “Obviously, Judah will bring a bit of spark around the nine and the marker.

“Jeremiah is a good strong runner and a good defender too. Sylvester had a bit of a patchy start last year but this year I reckon he’s going to have a really good year with his brute force and strong carries.”

Having arrived late, Horne missed the early stages of pre-season during which the Castleford Tigers squad was put through some gruelling efforts by new head coach Danny McGuire and his defensive assistant Brett Delaney.

Asked what he’d heard from his teammates, Horne echoed just how intense it had been, stating: “It’s been real hard, the boys have been getting flogged all pre-season and I’ve just come in two weeks ago and been getting flogged too.

“It’s been hard which is good, you want pre-season to be hard, and now the boys are looking fit and strong so it should be a good season.”

Having arrived at the club late in the 2023 season on loan, last year marked his first full season with Castleford and whilst it wasn’t successful for the Tigers – it was for Horne.

The hooker / loose forward earned the Players’ Player of the Year award and has quickly become a fan favourite as well, two things that he spoke about with pride.

“It meant a lot to me,” he said of his personal accolades last year.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be voted as Player’s Player by your peers. It just shows the respect that they have – it was such an honour to get that.”

Speaking about the fans, he said: “They pay our wages, they’re the ones that come and follow us everywhere – down to France, over to Manchester, or even further.

“They come watch us play and they pay their hard-earned money so they deserve us to put on a show for them and give them the time of day. I love getting around and chatting with them.”

With Super League being such a strong competition and Castleford having sat outside the play-offs for a number of years, many have touted the same to happen again in 2025 – something that Horne has responded to with a defiant message.

He exclaimed: “They can say what they want but the proof will be in the pudding so stay tuned – I know we’ll have a good year this year.”
