Jack Broadbent stood out on debut for Castleford Tigers as he scored a brilliant try as the Tigers lost to his former club the Featherstone Rovers.

The Tigers may have lost but it was a young side and the ex-Leeds Rhinos man believes the young players will be “pushing for a spot” in 2023:

“I’ve only really trained with them until this point and just training you can’t really get that good of a gage but they were really good today and playing like that they could be pushing for a spot.

“It was our first pre-season friendly and it was a really positive step and it’s really exciting. We will be ready for Round One.”

He was also very impressed with the Tigers fans:

“They brought the numbers on an early kick off and not in the best conditions. They were really good.”

But his former club’s fans gave him a bit of stick:

“They were giving me a bit, the rivalry is really good. They’re really close but I don’t mind it, it eggs you on a bit and you want to play a bit better.”

Overall, he was pleased with the account the Tigers made:

“I think we gave a really good account of ourselves and the senior players did really well and gave some good advice and the young players did really well against a side that will be competing at the top of the Championship, so we did really well.”
