Castleford Tigers release statement to threaten legal action

Castleford Tigers have released a statement to confirm they are seeking legal advice following allegations made in an online article. The story, featured on sportsship.co.uk, was about Sam Wood, who has been awarded the club’s captaincy by Danny McGuire this season.

The Tigers say they are considering legal action due to the nature of the allegations made, while director of rugby Danny Wilson has also spoken out to insist there is no truth in the story, describing it as a lie.

A statement published on the club website read: “Castleford Tigers are taking legal advice about an article published about our club captain Sam Wood.

“The article published on sportsship.co.uk today makes allegations that could result in legal action being taken against the website.

“Danny Wilson, Castleford Tigers director of rugby, said: “There is no fact in the story. It is false, it is deliberately designed to damage our successful pre-season, and we are talking to lawyers about taking action against the website that has published these lies.”

“No further comment will be made.”

Castleford have recently returned from a warm weather camp in Spain, where they took on and beat Valencia Huracanes in a pre-season friendly. That was Danny McGuire’s first game in charge of the Tigers and he’ll be returning to the technical area on Friday night when the Tigers make the trip to local rivals Wakefield Trinity.

The game will act as a testimonial for Luke Gale, and McGuire will be hoping to see an encouraging performance from his side. The Tigers then host Hull FC for Joe Westerman’s testimonial in their final pre-season game before the competitive action gets underway with a clash against either Bradford Bulls or Doncaster lined up in the Challenge Cup third round.

Having checked out the website, I have to say there are two stories there. While I will not say what these are the site are quoting sources. Fake news on website that looks like it’s based abroad. I would think it would be hard to get anything from them.
