Castleford Tigers release Jacques O’Neill

Castleford Tigers can confirm that the club has agreed to release Jacques O’Neill from his contract to allow him to pursue another opportunity.

The Tigers have the first option to sign O’Neill back next year should he wish to return to rugby league.

Known for a fearless attitude on the field by Castleford supporters, the Cumbrian born 23-year-old is a proud product of the Tigers’ youth system having come through both the Tigers’ Scholarship and Academy programmes before making his Super League debut.

Castleford Tigers have wished O’Neill well with his new opportunity and thanked him for his efforts as a Tiger so far.

It is widely believed that the 23-year-old will be heading onto the Love Island competition.

That show is watched by millions each day as contestants try and find love and take home £50,000 at the end of the competition.

Aged just 23, O’Neill is in his fourth season with the Tigers’ first team after debuting in 2019 and has made 29 appearances in that time.

However, it has been a year since the tough, uncompromising forward has played in a Castleford shirt due to injury and it’s unclear what would happen to his future following the series if he does decide to go into the villa.

Nowadays, contestants go on the Love Island series to further their careers in the public with the likes of Tommy Fury and Molly Mae Hague still together after starring on the show back in 2019.
