Castleford Tigers’ New Year’s Resolution

The new year is just days away and with it will come a new Super League season just seven weeks into the beginning of the latest chapter of human history.

A new year is a time when everyone looks to make a new start and make a change as they begin a new year.

This is why we get New Year’s Resolutions every year from so many people.

This desire for a new start shouldn’t be restricted to people though and could very well apply to Super League clubs.

So, what should Castleford Tigers’ resolution be going into 2023?

It’s a simple one: to make the play-offs. The last time Castleford made the play-offs was in 2019 a run of three years in a row and four times within six seasons.

In 2020, a strong start was derailed by the pandemic. Meanwhile, in 2021 the Tigers came up short in Daryl Powell’s final season as they were soundly beaten by his future club Warrington Wolves in the final game of the season subsequently missing out and finishing seventh behind Hull KR.

The same happened in 2022 under Lee Radford. This time they had one foot in the play-offs with five minutes to go in the season as they led 8-2 at Headingley but two tries from the Leeds Rhinos broke their hearts.

In 2023, they simply have to remedy this.
