Castleford Tigers man makes progress claim and talks Salford Red Devils’ struggle

Castleford Tigers’ Brad Singleton sees steps forward being made at The Jungle, despite the club’s Magic Weekend defeat to Wakefield Trinity last time out. The Tigers have won just two games all season, but their last win came the week before Magic as they saw off Huddersfield Giants.

Prior to that, the Tigers had pushed Wakefield extremely close in Rivals Round at Belle Vue. They were no match for Daryl Powell’s Trinity at St James’ Park, though, and for many the 32-8 loss was a cause for concern about the direction Castleford were heading in.

Danny McGuire’s side have had two weeks to prepare for this week’s clash with Salford Red Devils on home soil, though, and with the likes of Chris Atkin and Tom Amone settling in further, Singleton has seen encouraging signs on the training ground.

“I think training has been really good and as a group we’ve identified a lot and we’ve got through a lot,” Singleton told the Tigers’ official channels. “I think in the last couple of weeks, even though where it ended up in Magic Weekend and it wasn’t great watching at the back end, I think there’s been steps forward for the group.

“The new additions coming in, a lot of the boys are starting to speak and talk more. We’re a very hungry group and this week has been really good.

“To work on, it’s just probably a bit of consistency across the board and staying that cycle, especially the middles, we’re talking a lot about staying that cycle and being hard to break. I think we’re in a great place.”

Castleford Tigers man talks Salford Red Devils plight

Singleton knows more than most about the Tigers’ opponents this week, of course, having started the season as a Red Devil. He was one of the first to be moved on, though, when the exodus began a couple of months back with the prop making the move to West Yorkshire on a deal until the end of next season.

“It’s a tricky one with Salford,” Singleton said. “They’re going through a lot, I’ve got a lot of friends there and they’re doing it tough.

“I don’t have the answers on what will happen. From my point of view, for the fans and the players I hope it all gets sorted and it will be nice to see some familiar faces.”
