Castleford Tigers have made an appeal to fans as part of an announcement about their fixture against Salford Red Devils.
The fixture was in doubt on account of the Salford Red Devils’ financial situation with players reportedly threatening to not play if they had not been paid.
Thankfully, the players have been paid and Castleford have taken to social media to confirm that the game is on despite plenty of uncertainty.
More importantly, the game deserves a huge crowd as it will serve as a fundraiser for Ryan Boyle, the ex-Cas and Salford player whose wife is currently battling cancer.
Boyle revealed that prior to the start of the season and the rugby league family rallied around him whilst Castleford designated this game as their Ryan Boyle fundraiser match. Not only did the threat of postponement cause concern for Super League but also for this cause.
Castleford Tigers took to social media to assure fans that the game is on whilst encouraging them to ‘fill The Jungle’ for one of their own.
They shared: “Despite days of speculation to the contrary, the game in ON. Gates open at 6pm, the @boylebags19 fundraiser will be taking place throughout the evening.
“Let’s fill The Jungle.”

Head coach Danny McGuire spoke during the week to BBC Radio Leeds about the occasion, stating: “I know Boyley, he actually coaches my son so it kind of does mean a bit more to me and I know a few of the boys know him too.
“It will be a great occasion and with some of the bits that are going on at Salford, we’d like to see both teams going at it and making it a great occasion and raising some well-needed funds for a great family.”
Whilst everyone will get behind that message, it’s one of the few messages of clarity this week as there had been uncertainty over whether the fixture would be played whilst questions have also been asked of the team Salford were able to name.
On Tuesday when the RFL confirmed that Salford would have the £1.2 million salary cap imposed once again, it was confirmed to Serious About Rugby League that they would be restricted to the same £1.2 million squad named to face Midlands Hurricanes.
However, after Wednesday morning’s meeting between Salford and the RFL they were allowed to add Marc Sneyd, Kallum Watkins and Chris Hill to their squad with injuries and suspensions meaning the RFL gave the Red Devils dispensation.

What’s “strange” about being paid your salary Friday morning noon or night to quote Brian Carney (Sky commentator and RFL financial expert no less)
Stick to what you supposedly know Carney and stop making uninformed comments about subjects you have no knowledge of at all.
