Castleford Tigers look to have made another signing

When the Castleford Tigers squad numbers were announced on Friday, there were a few eager eyes looking at the trickle of names coming through on social media.

With the names getting announced slowly throughout the day, Niall Evalds was handed the number 1 shirt and Mackenzie Scurr the number 36 as new head coach Lee Radford looks to build for the 2022 Super League season.

Already, Jake Mamo, Bureta Faraimo, Mahe Fonua, George Lawler, Callum McLelland, Kenny Edwards, Alex Sutcliffe, Joe Westerman have signed deals at the Jungle, with youngsters George Collins and Ryan Morley also joining from Huddersfield and Hull FC respectively.

Two trialists have also been added to Radford’s squad – Junior Vasuitoga and Caleb Stanley – but neither of those have been given squad numbers ahead of the season.

And, with number 26 on the Castleford squad number list vacant, it is expected that there will be a new star in that jersey – whether or not that is one of the trialists remains to be seen.

The Tigers beat Doncaster in their final warm-up game before the season starts with a 66-18 victory which rounds off a perfect pre-season for Castleford following a 32-10 triumph against York City Knights the week before.
