Castleford Tigers’ head of medical services Dr Nick Raynor has delivered an optimistic injury update as the club carry just three injuries into the new season. The Tigers will be looking to get off to a fast start in Super League as new head coach Danny McGuire looks to build momentum early and he’ll be encouraged by the club’s injury situation as it stands.
Rowan Milnes is the only short-term injury concern, it seems, with the half-back picking up a knee injury about four weeks ago. It means he will miss this week’s clash with Wakefield Trinity and Joe Westerman’s testimonial with Hull FC next month, but he shouldn’t miss too much of the campaign.
In fact, Castleford are hopeful of having available in the ‘early rounds’ of the season, which could come as a huge boost for McGuire.
Sam Hall won’t be ready for quite some time yet, though, it has been confirmed. The 22-year-old damaged a nerve in his shoulder last season and was forced to go under the knife.
As such, he won’t be in action until the back end of the season, the club say, with Louis Senior set to return to action shortly before. The outside back tore a quad in May and needed surgery, ensuring he missed the remainder of the 2024 campaign.
The club are hopeful that Senior will be able to return during the midpoint of the season, following a lay-off of approximately 12 months.
In an update posted on the Castleford Tigers website, Raynor said: “It’s fantastic to see the squad come through such an intense and demanding pre-season in great shape.
“Rowan is making excellent progress, and it’s great to see him on track for an early return. For our two long-term players, Sam and Louis, both have faced rare and complex injuries sustained last season, but their positivity and commitment to their rehab have been excellent. Our physiotherapy team is working closely with them to ensure the best possible outcomes.”
